NEW WEEK; NEW CHALLENGE

thanks to everybody who participated and voted. i think we’ll choose one of our followers at some point to pick the subject. COULD BE FUN? keeping it rolling with JM’s pick for round 2;

SUBJECT: MOFFATT VS MOFFATT.
DEADLINE: FRIDAY JULY 16TH.
FIGHT.

this week we’re both going to create something with a moffatt vs moffatt theme. hopefully it will result in something we can use for a nice banner/header. again, thank you for following/voting!

SARA MOFFATTAGE: older but shorter.STRENGTH: figure rendering. WEAKNESS: abstraction. TRAINING/EDUCATION: self taught. BFA (almost). As an aside, no one teaches you to paint or draw in most any university (at least not mine). You are expected to arrive with a firm grasp of those skills.WEAPON OF CHOICE: Oil paint, but will use acrylic and watercolor when cornered. INSPIRATION: I’m an adamant believer in aesthetic imprinting - that the images digested during youth impact if not determine mark making in the future. Comics, cartoons, the tight bland picturesque water colour landscapes found on near every wall within a minuscule southern Ontarian home town, the Renaissance ‘master’ sketches and Group of Seven standards lauded in grade school - all of these entailed exposure to images in a rural working class environment, indexed and lurking in murk of memory, waiting to transition  to limb in clandestine exchange. I am presently engaged in attempts to negotiate and ultimately reconcile the production of fine art and the aesthetic tools and programing which predate my post secondary career.

WE NEED YOU; PICK YOUR CHAMP!

sara and i have decided that we’ll start a new piece each friday, and submit it on a friday. WHICH MEANS, i am putting a call out to our whopping 27 followers to reply to this post with a vote for their favourite self portrait. we’ll leave it till the end of the day, and have a new theme started for tomorrow. really appreciate the people who are taking part in this so far, it’s going to get a lot more interesting (and organized) as we go. JM or SM?

SUBMISSION; SM: SELF PORTRAITwatercolours.
SUBMISSION; JM: SELF PORTRAITFWs, watercolour, deco’s and ink on watercolour paper.
JENNIFER MARY MOFFATTAGE: 23STRENGTH: spit shading. WEAKNESS: figure drawing. TRAINING: traditional tattoo apprenticeship, travelling and listening. WEAPON OF CHOICE: FW acrylics, watercolours, deco pens. INSPIRATION: the ocean, anything nautical, the sad songs, american traditional tattoos, icon art, pretty girls, my daily grind. FAVOURITE ARTISTS: thomas hooper, chad koeplinger, sarah schor, jonas uggli, bert krak, steve byrne, victor kensinger, gustave dore, william blake, too many.

FIGHT; ROUND ONE; SELF PORTRAIT

this week, both sara and i will create a self portrait. a fun first challenge to introduce ourselves and this tumblr. sara and i chose this topic together, and the “winner” of this round, will chose the next. we will each have one week to present our self portraits, and will then ask our followers to cast their vote for their champion. FIGHT.
